Sylviana Murni Emphasizes Importance of Good Morals and Manners

Senator in the Jakarta Coordination Board Jakarta of Regional Representatives Council (BKSP DPD), Sylviana Murni stressed the importance of good morals and manners.

According to her, good morals and manners need to be instilled from an early age, especially in the midst of globalization and free lifestyle.

She explained one thing that needed attention was related to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual (LGBT) lifestyle.

"LGBT is far from the norms and morals. We must protect children and young people in Jakarta from the bad influence of promiscuity," she explained.

She was grateful that plans for an international scale LGBT gathering in Jakarta on July 17-21, 2023 were cancelled, thus potential disturbances to security or conduciveness in Jakarta could be prevented.

"I feel happy, especially since I strongly voiced my rejection of the meeting. Because if this meeting does take place, it could set a bad precedent, as if Jakarta or Indonesia support or legalize LGBT behavior. Surely, there will be rejection from many parties," she explained.

She respected the freedom of association and assembly. However, it should be in a good and positive framework.

"We certainly also value freedom. However, that freedom doesn't mean without restrictions and irresponsibility," she closed.
